I want the interior of our boat to feel very comfortable and homey, after all it will be our home! And going from a 1800 sq foot house to a 30-40 ft house will be quite an adjustment, so I want to make sure we create a nice and relaxed feeling in our new home with the interior decorating. I also want the girls to have a space of their own where they can retreat to and play or just have some downtime.
While searching for our boat, I have paid special attention to the interiors and started to save the images as a sort of “scrapbook” of ideas for when we start working on the interior of our boat. I’m still unsure on what type of colors scheme, if any, I would like to go with or if I would to stick with a nautical look, but hopefully this collection of pictures will provide some inspiration.
After adding all the pictures and comments of what I like about each one, some key things stood out to me that I find important in a boat interior.
Fabrics-The colors and textures of the material used for blankets, cushions, pillows, and bedding make these boat interiors feel comfortable. I would like to be able to sew some of these things myself. I know that the blanket made from my mothers shirts and sweaters will be a definite item we take with us and will provide an added comfort.
Lighting-Most all the interiors have lighting either from windows or lighting installed within the boat. From boat searching thus far, the older boats have a lack of lighting and if we purchase one of these, I would want some how add more lighting.
Pictures-I like the interiors that have personal touches such as the pictures or signs hanging in the boat. I would like if we could come up with our own pictures that include some type of motivation….possible the girls artwork could help out with this.
Lack of clutter -This also holds true in our current home. As soon as the clutter gets put away, thrown away, or given away, the house opens up and feels cleaner and provides a more relaxed place to live and play. I hope that we do not bring extra clutter onto our boat; however, with young kids I know that this will be hard to eliminate. Storage will be important for our family to stay organized and clutter free!
