Boat Interior

I want the interior of our boat to feel very comfortable and homey, after all it will be our home!  And going from a 1800 sq foot house to a 30-40 ft house will be quite an adjustment, so I want to make sure we create a nice and relaxed feeling in our new home with the interior decorating.  I also want the girls to have a space of their own where they can retreat to and play or just have some downtime.

While searching for our boat, I have paid special attention to the interiors and started to save the images as a sort of “scrapbook” of ideas for when we start working on the interior of our boat.  I’m still unsure on what type of colors scheme, if any, I would like to go with or if I would to stick with a nautical look, but hopefully this collection of pictures will provide some inspiration.

Berths

This hardly looks like a boat and it is amazing how they reconstructed the interior. It looks so fresh and inviting and yet such a small space

I'm in love with this boat right now. It is an Endeavour 37 and at the top of our list. The cute sign above the bed make it feel personable.

The turquoise colors attracted me to this picture.

Not sure we will every be able to keep our beds made like this one but I like the design.

Head

This is in the Endeavour again...I love the cute accessories but know those would have to be stowed away when underway.

I love everything about this picture...the basket, colors, jars, and hanging storage reflected in the mirror.

Galley

The extra storage is nice in this boat, plus the countertops.

The nice woodwork, window, and picture are appealing in this galley.

Salon

Love the colors, although I wonder if having a patterned print might be too much. The blue ottoman is a nice touch.

This salon looks very organized and clean. The picture and pillows make it feel homey.

The salon in the boat was completely re-done and looks more like the interior of a land based home. I had never though of painting the interior of a boat until I saw this picture.

I believe the mirror makes this boat feel bigger. The neutral colors are nice and relaxing.

I like the lack of clutter on this one....makes it seem clean and fresh.

After adding all the pictures and comments of what I like about each one,  some key things stood out to me that I find important in a boat interior.

Fabrics-The colors and textures of the material used for blankets, cushions, pillows, and bedding make these boat interiors feel comfortable.   I would like to be able to sew some of these things myself.  I know that the blanket made from my mothers shirts and sweaters will be a definite item we take with us and will provide an added comfort.

Lighting-Most all the interiors have lighting either from windows or lighting installed within the boat.  From boat searching thus far, the older boats have a lack of lighting and if we purchase one of these, I would want some how add more lighting.

Pictures-I like the interiors that have personal touches such as the pictures or signs hanging in the boat.   I would like if we could come up with our own pictures that include some type of motivation….possible the girls artwork could help out with this.

Lack of clutter -This also holds true in our current home.  As soon as the clutter gets put away, thrown away, or given away, the house opens up and feels cleaner and provides a more relaxed place to live and play.  I hope that we do not bring extra clutter onto our boat; however, with young kids I know that this will be hard to eliminate.  Storage will be important for our family to stay organized and clutter free!
